Saint Abrasives EHStock is a manufacturer of Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) cutting tools used to machine high abrasive materials.

The material PCD is grown onto a carbide base from graphite by synthesis process of high temperature and pressure.  SGA EHStock takes this product in the form of round disks and EDM cuts into shapes to be used to fabricate cutting tools in various types and forms.

PCD is one of the hardest materials available for use in cutting tools along with Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN).  It’s very hard abrasive properties make it ideal for cutting technical materials such as high silicon aluminum used in the automotive manufacturing sector or composites used in aircraft panels.  Against common cutting tool materials such as carbide, PCD machines to a better finish with good dimensional control, at higher speeds and has superior tool life typically between 20 and 100 times longer.

PCD can only be used on non-ferrous materials, for hard steels and cast irons PCBN is used.  The reason for this is that ferrous materials create high heat at the cutting point; this action would see PCD cutting tools revert back to graphite.
